Fat Burning Food Day 9…More Nuts
Today’s fat burning food is one of my favorites…cashews.
I l-o-v-e cashews. Love ‘em, love ‘em, love ‘em.
They taste so dang good, and the good thing about cashews is that they’re good for you, in moderation.
That’s the key to this fat burning food. They’re a little calorie dense, as most nuts are, but cashews are a little calorie dense than other nuts.
Don’t let the fact that they’re calorie dense deter you from eating this fat burning food, or any other nut because there are studies showing that people who eat nuts regularly are less susceptible to weight gain than the non-nut eating crowd.
But, eat in moderation. Don’t shove them in your mouth by the handful. Have a handful as a snack along with some yogurt, an apple, pear, or other piece of fruit.
One of my favorite ways to eat cashews is the homemade trail mix I keep at my office. It’s pretty simple – just throw a bunch of almonds cashews, raisins, craisins, a bag of M&M’s (small bag, not the ½ pounder or you will turn into a tub of goo), and maybe some peanuts or Cinnamon Life Cereal because I love that stuff.
Just like all nuts, cashews are loaded with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats.
Plus they’re high in magnesium. Not many people know the importance of magnesium for bone health, but without it calcium wouldn’t be used the way it is.
Not only that, but insufficient magnesium can cause muscle spasms, high blood pressure, muscle cramps, migraine headaches and muscle tension and soreness.
The good thing is that just ¼ cup of cashews (1 serving) gives you over 20% of your daily magnesium needs.
You can eat cashews raw, include them in a homemade trail mix (like me), add them to salads, saute them with some veggies, get some cashew butter and add that to your toast or make a PB&J (except it’s cashew butter, not peanut butter), add the cashew butter to some sliced apples, etc.
But, like I said, cashews are calorie dense so be careful with how much you eat…
…but don’t let the fact that they’re calorie-dense scare you away from enjoying this fat burning food.
