Fat Burning Breakfasts

I don’t know if it’s because my mom pounded it into my head while I was growing up, or just the fact that I know better, but I’m a huge breakfast guy.

I’m almost obsessive about getting a good, quality breakfast in every day…even when I have donuts (like last Sunday), I still have to get some sort of quality food in my belly.

The thing about my breakfasts is that I can’t do anything heavy.

I don’t know how people can eat warm food, or things like eggs first thing in the morning.  Don’t get me wrong, I love eggs and feel they’ve gotten some bad press over the years, but I just can’t eat them in the morning.

Nor can I do cereal of any kind.  Not even the “healthy” stuff.

My breakfast of choice is a good ol’ smoothie.

And I don’t mean stopping at the local smoothie-making joint and picking one up either because those are usually loaded with sugar, fattening frozen yogurts and all sorts of other deceptive foods (like fake fruit juices).

I make my smoothies and you should too.

They’re not that difficult to make and when you consider that you can drink them on your way to work, taking the kids to school, or wherever you head off to, there’s really no reason to not make them.

Given that I’m a creature of habit, my smoothies are the same every-stinking-day.

I found a recipe that I like, that’s loaded with nutrients, protein, fiber, good carbs and some fat and I stick with it.

Here’s the rundown on my smoothies…

1 or 2 scoops of whey protein powder
1/3 cup of blueberries
1/3 cup of blackberries
1/3 cup of raspberries
1 serving of ground flax seed
Kefir – I have no idea how much I pour in, but it’s not much.
If we have any, I’ll pour in some pomegranate or cranberry juice

Then I fill the cup up with water and mix it.  I don’t like my smoothies thick – unlike my wife who could almost scoop it with a spoon it’s so thick – so I might add some extra water after it’s mixed to thin it out.

I also use one of those wand mixers rather than a blender.  They’re easier to use and a lot easier to clean and take up less space.  Just make sure you get a good one because they’ll burn out fast making smoothies every day if you buy a crappy one.

That smoothie is loaded with fiber.  The flax and all the berries have loads of fiber.

All those berries are very high in antioxidants and phytonutrients and the Kefir is a great source of probiotics (good bacteria that your digestive system NEEDS).

All those carbs and protein help kick my day off on an energy high and I don’t feel “full” or bloated like I do if I were to eat some cereal or drink any milk.

I feel “light” and ready to take on the day.

Breakfast smoothies are one of my secret weapons when it comes to maintaining my physique and they can be yours too.
