A Story That’s Tough To Tell, But You NEED To Read

I’ve gone back and forth about whether or not to write this article for a few weeks.

On the one hand it’s a topic that everyone needs to take to heart and is about much more than just losing fat, getting toned, gaining muscle or getting sexy.

Those are all good things to be after, but some things are more important ya know?

But on the other hand it’s a topic that I’ve never totally come to grips with personally.  It still pains me a little bit to talk about it and probably always will.

But I think it needs to be talked about and I think that you and I will be glad I did talk about it.

My mom passed away 6 years ago, when I was only 23 years old.  She was only in her mid 50’s and was far too young to go.

She had a pretty rare form of cancer, but her cancer was in remission when she passed away.

I know the cancer played a major role in her illness and subsequent death, but like I said, it was in remission the entire time she was in the hospital. Read More→

4 Minute Abs Workout

I love weekends.

I love getting away from the office for a little while and just relaxing and hanging out with my wife and daughter.

I love being able to watch football (that’s American football for you non-Americans) and I almost jumped for joy as my Huskers nearly pulled off a huge upset on Saturday.

I also take a break from my regular workouts on the weekends.  Don’t get me wrong, I still try to remain active, but I just don’t do my regular workouts.  I give my body a little rest, as you should too if you do your workouts throughout the week.

But I get to the point where I’m ready to get back into the swing of things and get back into my workouts, especially now.

Wedding Cake Fat Loss Diet

I love wedding cake.

On Saturday Andrea and I went to a friend’s wedding and I have to tell you that I kinda like weddings.

I know that sounds weird for a guy to say, but I do.  I’m kind of sappy in that I enjoy seeing people at one of their happiest moments in life.

Although, like every guy, I want the wedding to be done with as quickly as humanly possible so I can get to the real good stuff.  The wedding reception.

I’ve told you before that I’m not afraid to eat.  I’m not a health nut and I will never, ever deprive myself of a food that I really enjoy.  I just know when to stop.

But one thing I have trouble stopping with is wedding cake.

I love wedding cake.  Have I said that before?

I do.  I don’t know what it is about the stuff, but I LOVE it!

And thank goodness we had some really good wedding cake on Saturday.

I stopped myself at one piece, even though I could’ve had more.  I didn’t though because I didn’t want to look like a crazy, sugar crazed person running back up to the cake table shoving little old ladies out of the way to get another piece of cake.  I’m slightly more dignified than that…only slightly, though.

The mother of the groom asked me how many calories I thought were in a piece of that wedding cake and my first reaction was to say “I don’t know, but not that many.”

She was kind of surprised at my reaction, and after I thought about it, my reaction was pretty stupid.

How To Motivate Yourself To Lose Fat

Yesterday I was interviewed by a wonderful British fella by the name of Noel Lyons.

It was a pretty good interview and you’ll have to remind me to give you the link to listen for yourself.

But we go to talking about motivation and goal setting and I didn’t get a chance to reveal some of the things I wanted to because we got off onto a different subject, and I want to share some of those things with you now.

I’m a big believer in goal setting, “mind mapping”, law of attraction, etc.  I believe whole-heartedly in many things that are viewed as “new age” by a lot of people and brushed aside as crap or worthless hippie dribble.

Now, having said that, I don’t believe that you can just sit down on your couch, think of something you want and then BAM! you receive what you’ve set your mind to.  That’s not at all what the law of attraction or goal setting is about at all.

You can’t achieve anything without taking some sort of action.

However, I totally believe that amazing things can happen if you believe…and you take the necessary steps.

That’s where many people trip up.  They don’t take the necessary steps, or they begin to take the necessary steps and the “realist” in them says they can’t achieve what they want.

Let me put that last sentence this way…

…do you remember the cartoons where Bugs Bunny (or whomever) would be faced with a difficult situation and a little angel and little devil would pop up on his shoulders?

The devil would try to convince Bugs that he should do the bad thing, while the angel tried to convince him to do the good thing. Read More→

What Can Michael Phelps Teach You About Fat Loss?

As I’m writing this, Michael Phelps and his mom are being interviewed, discussing his amazing 8 gold medals in the Olympics.
 
It’s a tremendous feat that many people never thought would happen.
 
Many of the best swimmers in history thought it was impossible for someone to win 8 gold medals.
 
It was just too many races over the course of one week.
 
He swam over 5 miles a day on his swim days, between the races, warm-up and cool-down.  How could he possibly win every single race he entered?
 
As I am watching this interview, something pops out.
 
He never wavered in his belief as to whether he could win every race he entered.
 
He had a goal and he was going to accomplish that goal.
 
He knew it would happen.
 
So how does that apply to you?
 
How does Michael Phelps winning a record 8 gold medals in one Olympics compare to you wanting to lose some fat, gain some muscle, or just get healthier?
 
You have to have the same determination that he had in the run up to these games.
 
You have to set a goal and you have to know that you will accomplish that goal.
 
There will be people along the way who tell you that you can’t do it.
 
They may try to sabotage you and make it seem OK to eat or drink things that you’re trying to steer clear of.
 
Some may flat out tell you that you can’t do it. That you’ve tried before and you’ll fail just like the last time you tried.
 
But you have to believe in yourself and, maybe even more importantly, find someone else who believes in you just as much as you believe in yourself.
 
Find a friend or loved one who will keep you going.
 
Michael Phelps had his coach and his family to keep him going and give him encouragement and fire when he needed it.
 
Everybody gets down on themselves sometimes, even the greatest athletes of all time, and you need someone to help keep you going in those instances.
 
The main reason I’m writing this is because over the last couple of weeks I’ve been getting emails from people all over the world who seem down on themselves.  They want to achieve a goal, but are having difficult times getting there.
 
My answer to them is the same as it is to everyone.
 
Believe in yourself and don’t give up.
 
Keep moving in the right direction, taking baby steps, and you will achieve your goal.
 
It may take some time, but you’ll get there.
 
Remember, it didn’t just take Michael Phelps one week to win 8 gold medals and become one of the greatest Olympians ever.
 
It took years.  Years of practice.  
 
Years of patience.  
 
Years of trials.  
 
Years of people telling him he couldn’t do it.
 
But he did it.
 
And you can too.
 
I believe in you.
