Gratuitous Frosting Thursday

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

IMG_0648

It took me a while to remember when this picture was from.  It’s from the graduation party of my cousin’s son.  Lots of good desserts and Maren mowed down on a couple cupcakes and wandered over and grabbed a number of cookies as well.

She was green for the rest of the day, if not into the next.  Frosting is a pain in the a$$ to get off!

Seeing this picture reminds me that I was supposed to design a program for the grad.  He wants to get beefier – but what 18 year old guy doesn’t?

Gratuitous “I’m Hot Stuff” Thursday

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Maren has decided she likes to wear sunglasses, carry multiple purses and wear heels.  Granted the heels are only 1/2 inch tall, she still wears them well.

She’s only 2 and I’m already worried about going broke in her teen years.  I seriously doubt my abilities to say “No” when the time comes.  Maybe I should start practicing now so that maybe by then I’ll have a little backbone.

Doubtful.

I Love This Damn Picture Gratuitous Thursday

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Andrea took this picture with my iPhone last week and I absolutely love it.

The quality of the picture sucks because it’s a phone, she took it herself and it’s damn near impossible to get Maren to stand in one place for longer than 1/50th of a second and the shutter speed of a camera phone isn’t too snappy.

But I love it because it’s my two favorite ladies and it’s just so frickin’ cute it’s not even funny.

I don’t know how Andrea got Maren to rest her hand on her shoulder and lean in like some cheesy wedding photographer, but she did.

Hangin’ Out Gratuitous Thursday

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

This pic was taken last week while Andrea and I were working out at my training studio.

Maren loves coming to the studio and running around while we workout.  Sometimes it’s fun to watch her, other times it makes me cringe because she tears the place apart.  My studio is full of resistance tubing, foam rollers, medicine balls, small medicine balls, etc. and she throws everything all over the place.

But, she gets to watch us exercise and tries to mimic some of our movements like push-ups, squats and lunges, so that’s kinda cool.

We call her our little Helper Monkey, and this picture shows she’s turning into one.  Oddly enough, I got the name Helper Monkey from an episode of The Simpsons where Homer lied to some an organization that provided helper monkeys to handicapped people just so he could get one to do his bidding.  The monkey got fat and lazy…

Salad Eating Gratuitous Thursday

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Last week we went to our very first Sesame Street Live.

Maren loved it.  Andrea and I kinda liked it mostly because Maren liked it so much.

However, with about 20 minutes left, you’re about ready to run out of the auditorium yelling and screaming because it gets so annoying and maddening.  Elmo screeching and speaking about himself in the third person, all the singing and dancing…enoug!

But she loved it, so it’s OK.

Anyway, before we went to the show we went out to dinner.  Sometimes that goes OK, other times it’s horrible.  This time wasn’t so bad, plus she likes to eat our salads so that’s good.  We’re getting her started off on the right foot, even though she does take after her daddy and asks for cheeseburgers all the time.

You’ll notice that the majority of the salad is iceberg lettuce.  Iceberg lettuce sucks.  It’s worthless and is mostly water.  There aren’t that many nutrients in it and it’s pretty much void of fiber and all the other good stuff that’s found in romaine or spinach.

Stay away from salads loaded with iceberg lettuce because they’re usually wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Gratuitous ‘So What’ Thursday

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

One of Maren’s favorite songs, right now, is “So What” by Pink.

Personally, I’m so sick of that stupid song it’s like someone is sticking knives deep into the caverns of my ears everytime it’s played.

I guess that’s just par for the course, though.

However, it’s also one of my niece’s favorite songs as well.

My sister shot a video of my lovely little niece singing (screaming?) the song one morning while she was eating breakfast.

It’s really pretty funny so I thought I’d share it.

Gratuitous ‘My Kid Is Tougher Than Yours’ Thursday

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

First off, Happy New Year!

I hope you had a great New Year’s Eve and I wish you nothing but awesomeness in 2009!

Now, onto this Gratuitous Thursday post.

I just bought one of those pull-up bars you can put in your doorway.  I love doing pull-ups,  but never had a pull-up bar at home (only the studio) because i didn’t want to ding up my doorways or have a giant piece of equipment like I have at my studio.

Well, when I put it together and was testing it out Maren decided she wanted to give them a try.  Honestly, she’s a pretty tough little chicky, and I”m not just saying that because she’s my daughter.  I couldn’t do pull-ups until my late teens (which is why I do them 3 times a week now), but she’ll be bangin’ ‘em out by the time she’s 3!

She even threw in a leg raise for good measure.

So, yes, my kid is tougher than yours!

Have an awesome New Year’s Day…and Go Huskers!  I hope my Huskers beat the living crap out of the Clemson Tigers.  My prediction  Huskers: 69  Clemson Kitty Cats:  3

Gratuitous Chocolate Muffin Eating Thursday

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

On my birthday we went and stuffed our faces at one of our favorite brunch places…yes I said brunch…and yes I said we stuffed our faces.

The little munchkin is in one of those phases of her life where she really doesn’t want to eat anything unless it’s called a Fruit Snack or chocolate, which is really kind of maddening.

But we were able to get a few things shoved down her gullet so we gave her a chocolate muffin.  I really wished another picture I took turned out well because she was smiling with chocolate in ALL her teeth and she looked like some backwoods hillbilly who decided to dress nicely for the day, but alas the iPhone didn’t snap it soon enough and it was all blurry.  Damn iPhone.
