A Wonderful Fruit Is Today’s Fat Burning Food

Sorry for missing last week’s edition of fat burning foods.  Don’t know why, but I didn’t feel like writing much last week.

Oh well, movin’ on.

Today’s fat burning food is…drum roll please…


I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to do apples for my fat burning food series.

I eat at least 2 of them a day for God’s sake.

Can you give me one good reason not to eat apples every single day of your life?

They’re one of the most portable foods known to man.  Come to think of it, I’ve got one sitting in the cup holder of my car that I’ll probably eat on my way home today.  I’ll have to hide it from Maren, though because she likes apples just as much as me and she’ll mooch if she sees me eating it.

I’m not a good food sharer.  Even with my own daughter.  How bad is that?

Apples are loaded with vitamins and the all-important fiber, which makes them not only a great snack but a great fat burning food as well.

You should know by now the importance I place on fiber when trying to lose weight, so when I find a food that’s got a good amount, I’m going to tell you to eat it.

However, to get the fiber from the apple, you have to eat the skin.  If you don’t eat the skin, you’re just getting some vitamins and a ton of water.  That’s not necessarily bad, but it doesn’t make it a fat burning food if you neglect the skin.

My sister doesn’t eat the skin and I’m constantly berating her about that, so if you don’t want to me to unleash a giant can of you-know-what, eat the skin.

Plus the skin is where all the phytonutrients are.  In case you don’t know what those are, they’re powerful antioxidants that have cancer-fighting and preventing capabilities, plus they’re great for the heart, immune system, and virtually every other function your body has.

Talking about apples is really making me crave one.  I love digging my teeth into a cool, crisp apple.

It just feels good!

A couple quick points before I sign out.

Make sure you clean the apple.  Pesticide and fertilizer residues ain’t cool.  Neither is the fact that God knows how many people handled the apple before it reached your refrigerator.

You might want to stick with organic apples, or just scrub the hell out of them with a produce cleaner or a mixture of vinegar and water.  However there is some evidence that the pesticides can leach into the fruit, which gives even more ammo to the organic argument.

One more thing.  Eat the apple, don’t drink the juice.

If you’re one of those people who would rather drink apple juice than eat the real thing, you’re really missing out on one of the earth’s best foods.

Plus, when you drink the juice, that’s not a fat burning food anymore, but could be a fat gaining food.

You take all the fiber out, which slows down the sugar absorption (which isn’t much if you just have one apple), but apple juice is loaded with sugar.

If you are going to drink the juice, or give it to your kids, make sure it’s 100% fruit juice and make sure that sugar, high fructose corn syrup, etc. is not on the top of the ingredient label.  If it is, put it back and keep looking.

    Thanks for sharing this nice blog. From my experience, keeping a stable and lower level of blood sugar is key to successful fat burning. This can be done by eating low carb foods and low gi foods. Coupled with aerobic exercises, our fat burning capacity can be greatly enhanced.

    Eating plenty of fresh fruit is vital to your health and weight loss, I try to eat one apple, one orange and one banana a day. Bananas especially when I have just completed a hard training session in the gym.
