3 Easy Diet Tips

I don’t know about you, but I had a pretty good weekend.

Because of the holiday we had lots of family time, which was nice.  We ate a lot of good food (too much by me) and got to spend some quality time together, which in this day and age doesn’t happen very often.

I also spent some time returning emails from readers having trouble with their eating habits.

That’s easy to understand because there’s a lot of misinformation when it comes to weight loss and other folks are just making it hard on themselves.
I try to make things as easy as possible when it comes to eating and weight loss.

The less thinking that has to happen, the better.

Here are a few very easy tips to stick to when it comes to diets, losing fat and being healthy.

Tip #1:  Start fast and finish strong.

I ran track in high school, and while I was very slow (I hate running!), one thing was certain.  To be successful you need to start fast and finish strong – and of course be faster than everyone else.

When it comes to eating, you need to start your day off with an awesome breakfast and finish your day with a good dinner.

A lot of people do one or the other, but don’t get them both hammered down on a regular basis.

Many people either skip breakfast or start off with a horrible meal, but finish the day off with something that’s pretty good.

The other half start their day off with an awesome breakfast, but finish their day with a giant, buffet-like spread of food.

You can’t expect to regularly skip one or the other and succeed with weight loss, let alone being healthy and feeling good.

You skip one; the natural tendency is to overeat at the other.  You may be able to hold out for a little while, but it will happen.

Don’t let it.

Start fast and finish strong.

Tip #2:  Don’t drink your calories.

Never drink your calories.  When we drink our calories (in the form of alcohol, soda, teas, or whatever) it’s like we go brain-dead and think they don’t matter, but they can add hundreds to your total, which can mean the difference between you losing fat, maintaining, or gaining.

Drink water with all your meals.  You can flavor it a little if you’d like, but I’d rather you didn’t.

This especially holds true if you’re going out to dinner.  Most meals are high in calories already; so don’t make it worse by adding liquid calories into the mix.

You can apply this tip to salad dressings and sauces as well.  They’re calorie bombs!

Tip #3:  Don’t beat yourself up if you screw up.

Everybody screws up, so don’t berate yourself if/when you do.

Just move on.  There’s nothing you can do about the past.

I actually ate like crazy yesterday.  I felt horrible by the end of the day, but I couldn’t change what I had already done and just had to accept it.

Today is a new day.  Embrace it and keep chuggin’ along.

    All I did this weekend was pack on fat…
    i went to work out the other day and ended up with really bad back pain that sent me to the chiropractor.
    So, here I am, not being able to work out and hungry..

    You’ve got a pretty good excuse for eating poorly and getting out of a routine. Newborns tend to do that to you.

    And I’m sorry to say, but the insanity may prevail! Only kidding, parenting is an awesome journey.
