10 Minute Bodyweight Workout and Abs Workout Videos

Want to know how to make a fit fella feel like an out-of-shape toad?  Take him to the mountains and make him do a bodyweight workout as soon as you get there.

Andrea and I headed up to the mountains of Colorado over the weekend because I had a business meeting and after sitting in the car for 8 hours, I needed to do something to get me loosened up and get the aches out of my muscles.

I hadn’t done a workout for the day because it seemed as though I was in slow motion that morning, so I thought it would be a good way to clear my head and get a second wind before we headed out for dinner.

So while Andrea was getting cleaned up I decided to do a body-weight workout out in the living room.

10 minutes later, I stumbled into the bedroom panting like a fat kid chasing after the ice cream truck in the middle of August (bad joke…sorry).

“What’s the matter with you?” Andrea asked with a goofy look on her face.

“I did a bodyweight workout in the living room and feel like my lungs are going to explode…and my head too.”  Granted it took me a few minutes to spit out that entire sentence, but it sounded like a good idea at the time.

But after I caught my breath, I did feel pretty good.  It felt great to be able to get my muscles loosened up and metabolism revved back up from sitting on my butt all day behind the wheel.

The really great thing about bodyweight workouts is that they can be done anywhere, and at anytime.  I could’ve done a mini-bodyweight workout while getting gas, but I’m a little self-conscious about such things.

If you’re wondering what I did, watch the 10 minute bodyweight workout video below.  It’s not of me panting in Colorado, but it is the same workout I did.

Here’s an abs workout that I could’ve done afterward…had I not felt like my lungs and head were going to explode.

Wow, you weren’t kidding. Ironically enough, I needed a quick workout today and this was perfect. I didn’t think it was possible to get too sweaty in ten minutes but I was wrong! I’ll be incorporating this as much as possible into my routine! Thanks!

Nice. These will be good on the days when I don’t have enough time to get to the gym.

Ok, Fit Dad…I need help…help with my sore muscles after that “little” ten-minute workout! I work out 4-5 times a week, but my butt and abs are screaming today!!!!

@Cheri: That’s the cool thing about these. You can do them anytime, anywhere!

@Gina: I love it! That’s what you’re after though, right? To get over the soreness, you should just keep moving. The worst thing you can do is sit around. Walk, lightly jog, leisurely bike ride, etc. Or do my favorite and get a massage. You’re not going to get much sympathy from me, though! 🙂

You know your stuff! I actually took a 45 minute spin class tonight. Although when I first finished, I thought my butt was going to fall off my body, I now feel MUCH better. 🙂 And yes, that is totally what I am after!

I do have one other question for you. I have been told by a few people that adding weight lifting to my workout routine a couple times a week will increase my metabolism. There is a class I like at my gym on Sundays. For the second class, would it be okay if I went on Tuesday or should I wait until Wednesday or Thursday? Thanks!

Gina – Those people are absolutely right. You do need to add some resistance training. You don’t need to do it through classes, though. You don’t need to spend 45-60 minutes doing resistance training. I’m not a big believer in long, drawn out workouts. I get bored easily, as do most people, plus they’re not necessary.

Why don’t you email me at ed@fatlosstogo.com and we can chat further.

It must be the late night grocery store stops to pick up a sub, after you’ve slammed the Starbucks and blueberry muffin…all before Survivor comes on.

You should write these down that way you can do them in the hospital while you’re waiting for the little one to arrive.
